The Solway Sharks Ladies Ice Hockey Team was created in May 2013 by the Solway Sharks Junior Ice Hockey Club along with Dumfries & Galloway Council, based at Dumfries Ice Bowl. The aim our Team is to allow any female to participate in Ice Hockey in a safe, inclusive environment and along the way promoting Ladies sport within our region. We are currently the only Ladies Ice Hockey Team in Scotland.

On Saturday 21 June 2014, we were successfully voted into the 'English National Division 1 North' by the members of the E.I.H.A (English Ice Hockey Association) .The Solway Sharks Ladies team are getting ready for their first season in September, competing as the only Scottish Team in the EIHA, Women’s National North Division 1. We will be playing established teams from Whitley Bay in the North East to as far south as Coventry.

We hope to fundraise enough to cover costs of running our team for 2014/2015 which includes bus hire for travelling to away games, referees fees, team shirts and so on. Our players are currently covering all costs themselves, purchasing essential kit required to play, team training tracksuits, travel and registration fees etc. We have also raised money through various fundraising events. Solway Sharks Ladies have their own Committee, TSB Sports bank account, Constitution, Code of Conduct, and other Policies adhering to Dumfries & Galloway Council.
